VCR

FirstVCR5001

The first VCR released in 1977 cost $2087. Within years there were many models under $1000. By 1990 VCR technology had greatly improved (8 head, auto-cleaning, auto seek etc..) ― nevertheless the price had dropped dramatically and some models were available for less than $50. By 2000, VCRs where virtually gone from the market.  They were tanks.

Do you remember your first VCR? I hope you didnt pay 2,000 for it 🙂

Before Mad Cow

c_756

In the 70s, some brilliant General Mills scientist hit upon the idea of coating cereal with “an excipient of a drink mix” (in the words of Wikipedia) which would dissolve on contact and flavor the milk. Crazy Cow came in chocolate and strawberry. One edition featured Star Wars trading cards, which were particularly valuable because they weren’t available anywhere else.

The chocolate one was yummy too!
